Round Villains in Storytelling

After yesterday, I started to think a lot about villains, like how much depth some have and how they can be round characters, but when I went to see some videos about the topic, I found many people on the villains were right: mentality. I understand where it comes from as the depth of this character does question the morality of certain situations, yet in most cases, I noticed how people seem very perplexed that bad people are complex and relatable, which does not mean what they do is right.

Justification does not mean validation or rightness; many people miss this point the most; round villains have relatable stories or reasons for their behavior that might justify their actions to themselves, yet the end of such villains is to showcase how, despite those reasons, they are acting wrongly or shallowly. Many take things to the extreme or near the extreme; they try to fix something incorrectly, usually because it hurts innocent people and people who might have wronged them. They take their actions too far, which is why they are villains, not because of their tragic story/life but how they go about it.

We are supposed to internalize the wrongs here; they are meant to explore those themes, usually things that happen in real life or are similar to natural, so people can see how many are wrong in society. We, as an audience, push for change. But many have taken these motives and try to validate the villain's ways of doing things and want to make them heroes or even righteous, yet fail to understand why they affect innocent people and how, although they have good reason, their ideology will make things worse for everyone.

Now I don’t say only make flat villains so people get the evil point, but if so many people misunderstand the message of round villains, maybe we should be more clear sometimes, or perhaps the reading comprehension of an entire generation is fucked. Honestly, who knows? I am just one man.
